WHIMSICAL FELT TREES
Get ready to squeal when your kiddos make these Whimsical Felt Trees — they’re THAT cute! This simple sewing craft for Tu B’Shevat, the Birthday of the Trees, gives kiddos a chance to explore how beautiful and unique trees really are. Sewing felt is actually pretty easy, even for little hands; and these sweet little trees can be used as decorations for your Tu B’Shevat celebration or for anything you want. Hip hip hooray for trees!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
-Felt sheets in whatever color(s) you like
-Embroidery thread to match the felt (alternatively, you could mix up the colors to make everything extra whimsical)
-Sewing needle
-Optional (I also like to use a needle threader, especially as the embroidery thread is a bit thicker and therefore more challenging to put through the eye of the needle)
-Scissors
-Fabric pen or pencil (I used a white fabric pen)
-Tu B’Shevat Tree Graphics PDF
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:
(1) Print the Tu B’Shevat Tree Graphics PDF and cut out the individual pieces. (2) Place the template pieces on top of the felt and trace around the edges with a fabric pen. Note that you will want two pieces of each shape. (3) Cut out all the felt shapes. (4) Sew the mini tree trunks first, joining the two same rectangle shapes together before sewing. (5) Now sew each of the tree tops, first joining the two same shapes together. Next, sew around the edge, but leave a small space to insert the trunk. After you insert the trunk, finish sewing around the edge, making sure that the trunk is included in your stitches.
