BUTTON TREE

If you’ve been saving all those extra buttons for years, now’s the time to break them out! Gluing buttons is so fun, and gluing them into the shape of a tree is even more exciting! Your kiddos will surely love creating this unique Tu B’Shevat craft while at the same time honoring the Jewish value of BAL TASHCHIT (do not destroy) — a win win!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Cardstock paper (thicker paper supports the weight of the buttons better)
-Buttons — any size, color, and shape
-Liquid glue (Elmer’s School Glue works great)

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Arrange the buttons in the shape of a tree on your paper. (2) Be creative — the leaves don’t have to be green, and the trunk doesn’t have to be brown! You’re the artist, so you can design your tree any way you like! (3) Next, put a little bit of glue on the back on each button and then press it to the paper. Keep doing that until all the buttons are glued to the paper. (4) Once your tree is fully dry, you may want to display it somewhere special to get everyone in your family thinking about and appreciating trees — especially for Tu B’Shevat! (5) If you decide some day that you don’t want to keep your Button Tree, take the buttons off first and save them for a different project, and then recycle the paper. Doing this is kind to trees, the earth, and everyone!
