DREIDEL CAP COLLAGE

Not all cities accept plastic bottle caps for recycling; and even if they do, they’re not always really recycled. Here’s a fun way to put those caps to good use — make a dreidel cap collage! Kids love this one because they do a mitzvah (helping take care of the earth), and they get to use lots and lots of glue, which is always a crowd pleaser! It’s a great group project, too, as more than one person can be adding the caps to create that big dreidel shape. Once your family has enjoyed this unique creation, don’t throw it away! You can pull off the caps and use them for a different cap collage or craft — reuse, then reuse again!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-A sturdy surface such as thick cardboard or foam board
-Liguid glue (like Elmers white glue or school glue — glue sticks won’t work for this)
-Plastic bottle caps — lots of them!

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Draw a large dreidel shape on a piece of cardboard or foam board (or you could CUT a large dreidel shape). (2) Put glue on either each cap or the spot where you’ll put each cap. Usually I tell kids that a little bit of glue goes a long way; for this project, you can be more generous with the glue to hold those caps in place. (3) It’s much simpler to create the collage by filling in the entire dreidel shape with an assortment of caps. Some kids may want to do a more advanced version by including one of the dreidel letters (gimel, shin, hey, or nun). For that version, create the shape of the letter first with one color and then add all the contrasting color caps around it. (4) Let the glue dry thoroughly. (5) Once you’ve enjoyed your creation, don’t throw it away! You can pull off the caps and use them for another collage or a different craft — reuse, then reuse again!
