FABRIC SUKKAH GARLAND

This one has been a fan favorite with my Kindergarten synagogue students for many years! They love tying the fabric strips onto the twine, which is also great practice for kiddos learning to tie their shoes. The end result is so sweet, especially once it’s hanging in the sukkah. The colorful fabric strips dance in the breeze happily and they’re also able to withstand the inevitable rain. A simple and beautiful way to make your Sukkot celebration extra joyful!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-twine (four or five feet is a good amount)
-painters tape or masking tape
-strips of fabric (18-20 inches long by 1-2 inches wide is a good size*)
*If the strips are too short or too wide, it’s more challenging for kiddos to tie them

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Tape each end of the twine onto your table so that the twine is stretched out horizontally in front of your child. It’s much easier to tie the fabric strips onto the twine when the twine stays in place. (2) One strip at a time, have your child tie a basic knot onto the twine. Younger kiddos will probably need some assistance. (3) Once your child is happy with the amount of strips on the twine, voila — it’s done! (4) Now it’s time to hang this beautiful decoration in your sukkah! If you don’t have a sukkah, find a special spot for it — preferably outside so that your family can still enjoy the spirit of Sukkot!
