MEGA TZEDAKAH BOX WITH SUPERSIZE COINS
When your kiddos make a Mega Tzedakah Box, everyone in your family will be inspired to GIVE BIG! Use a shoebox or whatever box you like, cut a hole at the top (that part, of course, is best done by grown-ups), and then decorate the box with paint, markers, washi tape, stickers, etc. Finally, glue on some tzedakah graphics from the Tzedakah Graphics PDF and any other items you like, such as craft gems or sequins! It’s also fun to make some supersize coins — just use paper coasters, wood circles, or cardstock paper and sketch in a design. Kids will enjoy taking a closer look at an actual coin for inspiration or creating their own unique coin design. When it’s complete, put the tzedakah box in a place of honor in your home, reminding everyone of this central Jewish value and obligation — tzedakah!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
-Cardboard box (a shoe box works great)
-Paintbrush and acrylic paint in whatever color(s) you like (alternatively, you can use markers)
-Optional: you can also include glitter, sequins, pom poms, craft gems, and/or any other decorations you like
-Glue (Mod Podge or Elmers liquid glue)
-Scissors
-Tzedakah Graphics PDF
-Colored pencils (metallic ones are great)
-Paper coasters (I used 4” paper coasters) , wood circles, or cardstock paper
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:
(1) Write your name and the year on the bottom of the box, then cut a hole for coins at the top (that part, of course, is best done by grown-ups). Make the hole big enough to fit the supersize coins. (2) Paint the box whatever color(s) you like. Alternatively, you can use markers. Let it dry completely. (3) Print the Tzedakah Graphics PDF and cut out whatever graphics you’d like to use. (4) Working on one side at a time and letting each side completely dry (about an hour) before going on to the next side, glue the tzedakah graphics, gems, sequins, pom poms, and/or whatever pieces you’d like to include. If you don’t let each side dry completely, the pieces will slide down the box. (5) Once it’s completely dry, you can start adding coins for tzedakah! (4) For the supersize coins, use either paper coasters (I used 4” paper coasters), wood circles, or thick cardstock paper. You can take a close look at an actual coin and sketch it using colored pencils (metallic colored pencils work great) or markers. Alternatively, you can create your own unique coin design!
