TEENY TINY SHABBAT SET
Could this be more adorable? It’s hard to imagine how! Kids love creating anything that’s teeny tiny, and this Shabbat set is no exception. It gives them a chance to take a really close look at Shabbat candles, a kiddush cup, and challah to recreate them. Their little masterpiece could be a decoration for your Shabbat family dinner, a special set for little dolls to play with, or…they could just make it for the joy of making it, which is always a great way to go!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
-Polymer clay* in whatever colors you like
-Optional (but really helpful): candlesticks, a kiddush cup, and a challah to look at for reference (alternatively, you could look at pictures)
*I used polymer clay to make the example in these photos. Polymer clay hardens when it’s baked and then becomes pretty durable. But…it can be harder to work with. You really have to work it and warm it up in your hands for a while first. Younger kids have a much easier time working with play dough, which, when left out, will dry. Play dough doesn’t hold up long term as much as polymer clay, but that’s ok. It’s the experience that kids have while making the craft that matters the most!
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:
(1) If you’re using polymer clay…really work it in your hands for a while to get it warmed up. Then it will be easier to work with. (2) Using real Shabbat objects as a reference, shape a set of candlesticks, a kiddush cup, and a challah. (3) Bake your creation according to the polymer clay instructions. (4) If you’re using play dough…follow the same directions as above, but let the play dough air dry. (5) Voila — you now have a beautiful teeny tiny Shabbat set!
