WHAT’S IN THE TORAH - MINI BOOK

The word Torah means “teaching,” and in Judaism, it is our most precious book, our foundation. It contains the stories of our ancestors which help us understand our own lives today. It is filled with Jewish law, our covenant with God, mitzvot, blessings, and so much more. It is our guidebook of how to be the best version of ourselves, how to overcome any challenge, and how to lead a life of holiness. There are endless ways to explore the Torah, and a good starting point with children is to talk about what’s in it. This cut and glue craft is a great way to have a conversation with your kiddos about why the Torah is so special. You can use the prepared “what’s inside” words (e.g., God, blessings, etc.) in this craft template, and/or you can use the blank squares and make your own list. This simple craft will help lay the foundation of a lifelong love of Torah!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-What’s in the Torah? TEMPLATE
-Watercolors, paint, markers, crayons, and/or colored pencils (I used watercolors)
-Scissors
-Book ring

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Print the What’s in the Torah? TEMPLATE onto cardstock. Alternatively, if you plan to paint, you could print the template onto printable watercolor paper. For this example, I painted with watercolors on cardstock, and when the paper dried, it was bumpy (this doesn’t happen with watercolor paper). Because of this, I put each piece in a big book overnight to press them down, and that did the trick. (2) Decorate the mini Torahs however you like — with paint, markers, crayon, colored pencils, anything you want. (3) Cut out each mini Torah, or, just cut each paper with two Torahs on it in half. It does look cool to cut the outline of each Torah; however, it might be too tedious for little ones. (4) Cut out the “word” squares, and even better — brainstorm some of your own ideas of what’s in the Torah and write them in the blank squares. (5) Glue one “word” square onto each mini Torah. (6) Hole punch each small gray circle. (7) Assemble your book in the order you want the pages to be, and then feed a book ring through the holes. (8) Voila! Enjoy your What’s in the Torah mini book! Chag Sameach!
