WOODEN SHABBAT CANDLESTICKS

What is the best kind of Shabbat candlesticks? You guessed it — the ones kids make themselves! They can create their own dazzling designs on wooden candlesticks, and these will become a central part of your family Shabbat celebrations!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Wooden candlesticks (4-inch unfinished wood candlesticks work best and standard Shabbat candles will fit just right)
-Acrylic paint in whatever colors you like
-Paintbrush

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Write your name and the year on the bottom of each candlestick. (2) Google “Shabbat” images to get some ideas of what you’d like to paint — or you can paint any design you like! (3) Allow the paint to dry overnight before you use your beautiful candlesticks for Shabbat. (4) It’s a good idea to protect your candlesticks with disposable aluminum candle holders. This way the wax melts into the candle holders instead of all over your special candlesticks. And even though they’re disposable, I manage to use the same ones many times. I hope you can, too!
