HAKARAT HATOV JAR
Hakarat Hatov is the Jewish value of GRATITUDE, and it literally means “recognizing the good.” Judaism teaches us to be vigilant about noticing the abundance of blessings that surround us. Knowing that a regular practice of gratitude is scientifically proven to make people happier should put a smile on your face, too! Teach your kiddos to notice all the things they’re thankful for starting at a young age. Making a Hakarat Hatov Jar will give them a tangible way to do just that! Give them a little pad of paper, and every time they see something they’re thankful for, they can draw a picture of it and put it in their special jar. Before they know it, their jars will be filled with all the good in their lives; and won’t that be wonderful!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
-Large clean jar (make sure it’s big because you surely have a lot of blessings!)
-Hakarat Hatov Label PDF
-Whatever you want to use to decorate your jar — stickers, washi tape, gluing small pieces of tissue paper, etc.
-Small pad of paper (3” x 5” is a perfect size)
-Writing utensil (pen, pencil, marker, and/or crayon)
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:
(1) Print the Hakarat Hatov Label PDF. This PDF is designed to use with Avery Labels 5264 - 3 1/3” x 4” shipping labels. Alternatively, you could print the sheet on paper, cut out the label section, and tape or glue that to your jar. (2) Decorate your jar any way you like. Stickers work great, but you could also glue little pieces of colored tissue paper to the jar. (3) Be on the lookout for things you’re thankful for, and when you see something, draw a picture of it on a piece of paper (or you could write the word — or you could do both!) (4) Put all those papers in your jar! You’ll soon discover that you have so much to be thankful for, only a tiny portion of your blessings can fit in your jar!
